In our Saturday pool play game we had a player ejected for sportsmanship. The team did not have a sub. Should that been a forfeit?

No. Should have been an out every time their spot in the order came up.
If they only batted 9 (and had 9 before the ejection), most tournaments let you finish with 8 so lob as you start with 9.

He is correct. in Fedeation it is an out but in official rules of baseball it is a forfeit.
